Different Categories of Dress Code for Women

There are many types of fashionable women’s apparel including dresses, social apparel, Suits, outerwear, active wear and lingerie. There are also special categorizes such as bridal gown and maternity clothing and accessories.
Types of Dresses:
Dresses are single garments or two pieces on the same hanger priced as one unit. Style range from tailored to simple; business to casual. Dresses are easy to wear.
There are some categories in dresses. These are as follows:
- Formal dresses
- Informal dresses
- Casual dresses
- Social apparel and
- Other dresses
1. Formal dresses:
Formal dress is defined as attire suitable for special occasions, such as weddings, religious confirmations, formal garden party or dinner, high-level business meetings, office wear, and audiences with heads of state and similar occasions. Formal dress for women usually calls for floor-length gowns, although this can vary according to the occasion.
The Western style of formal evening dress, characterized by black and white garments, has spread through many countries.
There are some dress codes in formal dress. Those are given below:
i. Morning dress
ii. Black tie
iii. White tie
iv. Office wear or high level business meeting dress
v. Semi- formal dress
i. Morning dress:
Morning dress is the daytime formal dress worn by both men and women. For men coat, waistcoat and stripped trousers and appropriate dress for women.
ii. Black tie:
Black tie refers to a level of formality rather than the specific dress required. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktail, long dress and evening dresses. A little black dress is completely appropriate for black tie functions.
iii. White tie:
White tie is the ultimate level of formality. Women are required to wear floor-length gowns. There may even be a specification for ball gowns, as opposed to evening gowns. Ball gowns are usually worn with taffeta undergarments and are often worn with long opera elbow-length gloves. White tie calls for the very best jewelry and shoes the woman has in her possession.
iv. Office wear or high level business meeting dress:
Corporate women wear shirt, pant, formal suit and skirt for their daily office work or high level business meeting purposes. Sometimes they wear top and jeans also.
v. Semi formal:
Semi-Formal means that tuxes are not required, nor are long dresses. An evening wedding would still dictate dark suits for him, and a cocktail dress for her. Daytime semi-formal events mean a suit for him and an appropriate short dress or dressy suit for her.
Business Formal is the same as Semi-Formal for men, but for women it suggests that women for more tailored dressy suits and dresses.
2. Informal Dresses:
Informal is often interpreted as the same as Casual but it actually calls for the same dress as Semi-Formal dark suits for men, short dresses for women especially when associated with a wedding or special event.
3. Casual dresses:
Casual dresses generally mean anything goes including tops of different length, jeans, sneakers, etc. If the host or hostess a more dressed-up approaches, it would be dictated on the invite. And when in doubt about what to wear, remember you can always ask the host or hostess what they expect party guests to wear.
There are many types of casual dress such as:
- Smart casual
- Dressy casual
- Business casual
- Country club casual
- Cocktail casual
4. Social apparel:
Social apparel includes specially occasion attire , such as evening, bridal dress, social apparel stands for the social acceptance, social attitude or the choice of a target group of people.
There are some kinds of dress in social apparel such as:
A tops is a cloth garment for upper body. Tops is as like as shirt worn only by women. A tops is more specifically garment with collar, sleeves with cuffs, and a full vertical opening with buttons or snaps.
Jeans and trousers often made from denim or dungaree cloth. Often the term “jeans” refers to a particular style of pants, called “blue jeans,” which were invented by Jacob Davis in 1871.Jeans are now a very popular article of casual dress around the world. They come in many styles and colors.
A skirt is a tube or cone shaped garment that hangs from the waist or hips and covers all or part of the legs. Skirts are only worn by women. Fashionable ladies worn floor length, long and short skirt it depends on wearer’s personal tests. Most skirts are self standing garments, but some skirt looking panels may be part of another garment such as leggings, shorts and swimsuits.

Saree is a traditional outfit for women. In the weeding party, women vastly use saree to present informal looks. In the every occasion of central Asia women prefer sari. Some women also used sari for their casual wear.
Salwar-kameez is a traditional and social costume in central Asia. It is very popular costume for women. It is also used in the casual way.
Suits are jackets and skirts (pants) sold together as units. Suit range from casual to tailored. There is a trend to casual dressing at the office but it remains to be seen if professional women will give up their “power” suits.
There are mainly two types of suits in women’s fashion categories. They are:
- Formal suit
- Informal suit
Suit is a set of garments made from the cloth usually consisting of at least a jacket and trousers. Now a day’s suit is mainly use by professional purpose. Lounge suits (also known as business suits when sober in color and style), which originated in Britain as country where are the most common style of Western suit.
Often suits are used in informal purpose. There are various types of suit which are informally used. Generally fashionable women also wear informal suits.
Outerwear includes coats, capes and jacket with primarily protective function. Maximum outerwear designed to be worn over another dress. Dress can be transparent. There are mainly two types of outerwear:
A coat is a long garment worn by both men and women for warmth or fashion. Coats typically have long sleeves and are open down the front, closing by means of buttons, zippers, hook-and-loop fasteners, toggles, a belt, or a combination of some of these. Other possible features include collars and shoulder straps .

5. Other dresses:
Sportswear is any combination of tops and bottoms, such as skirt, trouser, shorts, blouse, and shirts. Sportswear is popular because of its verify of look that can be made by combining separates. American designer are excellent in this category, which suits informal American life style.
Active wear is the one of the hottest categories of apparel today, fueled by the popularity of fitness. Active wear is sub-categorized into two segments. Fitness wear, worn by people who actively participate in sports and active wear simply as street wear. For instance T-shirt, jogging sets, sweatshirts and jacket.
A swimsuit, bathing suit, or swimming costume is an item of clothing designed to be worn while engaging in a water- based activity or water sports, such as swimming, water polo, diving, surfing, water skiing, or during activities in the sun, such as sun bathing. A swimsuit can also be worn as an undergarment in sports that require a wetsuit such as water skiing, scuba diving, surfing, and wake boarding. Swimsuits are also worn when there is a need to display the body, as in the case of beauty pageants, or bodybuilding contests. Glamour photography and magazines like illustrated annual “swimsuit issue” feature models and sports personalities in swimsuits.
The more fitted looks of today’s fashion is also influenced the rise in sales of body slimmers. Lingerie is a term for fashionable and possibly alluring undergarments. The term in the French language applies to all undergarments for either gender. In English it is applied specifically to those undergarments designed to be visually appealing or erotic. Lingerie usually incorporating one or more flexible, stretchy materials n like Lycra , nylon (nylon tricot), polyester, satin, lace, silk and Sheer fabric which are not typically used in more functional, basic cotton undergarments.
