Men’s wear:

Men’s clothing has also changed as a result of changes in their interest and more casual life-styles, traditionally men learned to look for quality, fit and durability. There are many categories available for men as there are for women.

Types of dresses code for men:

Dress code in an item of different dress that is used in the social events. Dresses are single garments or two pieces on the same hanger priced as one unit. Style range from tailored to simple; business to casual. Dresses are easy to wear. There are some categories in dresses. They are:

  1. Formal dresses
  2. Semi- formal dress code- Black tie
  3. Informal dresses
  4. Smart casual
  5. Business Dress Code
  6. Business Casual or Dress Casual
  7. Casual dresses
  8. Other Dresses

1. Formal dresses:

Formal dress is mainly suitable for special occasions, such as weddings, religious confirmations, formal garden party or dinner, high-level business meetings, office wear, and audiences with heads of state and similar occasions.

There are some dress codes in formal dress. Those are given below:

  • Morning dress
  • White tie
  • Office wears

Morning dress:

Morning dress is the daytime formal dress worn by both men and women. Men wear coat, waistcoat and stripped trousers.

White tie:

Formal wear for men changes depending on the time of day: in daylight hours, it means morning dress with a tailcoat and vest, while at night it means white tie. Most white-tie affairs are diplomatic events, or high-formality award ceremonies and the occasional British sporting event. Also wear wedding or birthday party.

Office wear:

Corporate men wear shirt, pant, and formal suits for their daily office work or high level business meeting purposes. Sometimes they wear polo shirts and jeans also for casual look.

2. Semi- formal dress code- Black tie:

Like formal wear, semi-formal attire changes based on time of day. In the evening it is the familiar black tie (tuxedo) ensemble, while in the daytime the stroller (a relaxed alternative to morning dress) is appropriate.

3. Informal dresses:

Informal attire also called international business attire or Western business attire is a dress code, typified by a suit and necktie. On the scale of formality, informal attire is more formal than casual but less formal than semi-formal. It is more presentational than semi-casual. It is strong association with the business world; informal attire is also known as international standard business dress or business formal. Some informal dress items for men are-

  • Lounge suit
  • Suit and necktie
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Dress shoes
  • Jacket with matching trousers

4. Smart casual:

Smart casual is a dress code that is generally neat yet informal attire. Smart casual as well-dressed in a casual style. Such as: Jeans with suit.

5. Business Dress Code:

Business dress code means one thing for men: matched suits, white dress shirt, a conservative tie, and black leather oxfords, also wear a dark, solid colored or pinstriped suit. Social suits with lighter colors or more vivid patterns are acceptable.

6. Business Casual or Dress Casual:

Business casual invitation still requires slacks or khakis (not jeans) and a collared shirt, as well as leather dress shoes and socks to match the trousers.

7. Casual dresses:

A “casual attire” invitation is mostly open ended, but there is still the expectation of dressing up for a social event. Neckties are definitely not needed, but a casual jacket; dark, fitted jeans, t-shirt, polo shirt could still be worn. Leather shoes and collared shirts are still preferable.

8. Other Dresses:

i. Furnishings:

Furnishings include dress shirt, underwear, hosiery, robes, pajamas, hats, tie, coat pin, wallet, handkerchiefs etc.

ii. Work wear:

Work clothes such as overall, work shirt and pants required by labors. In case of work clothes safely requirement keep very important role. Work wear is clothing worn for work, especially work that involves manual labor. Often those employed within trade industries elect to be outfitted in work wear because it is built to provide durability and safety.

iii. Sports wear:

Sports wear include sport jackets, knit or woven related separates, sweat wear and casual trousers that make the demand for casual wear. Sportswear or active wear is clothing including footwear worn for sport or physical exercise. Sport- specific clothing is worn for most sports and physical exercise for practical comfort or safety reasons.


Typical sport- specific garments include shorts, track suits, t-shirts, tennis shirts and polo shirts. Specialized garments include wet suits (for swimming, diving, or surfing) and salopettes(skiing) and leotards (for gymnastics). Sports footwear includes trainers. It also includes some underwear, such as the jockstrap and sports bra. Sports wear is also at times worn as causal fashion clothing. For most sports the athletes were a combination of different items of clothing e.g. sport shoes, pants and shirts in some sports, protective gear may be requiring to be worn such as helmets or American football body armor.

iv. Active wear:

Active wear is the one of the hottest categories of apparel today, fueled by the popularity of fitness. Active wear is sub-categorized into two segments. Fitness wear, worn by people who actively participate in sports and active wear simply as street wear. For instance T-shirt, jogging sets, sweatshirts and jacket.

v. Swimwear:

A swimsuit, bathing suit, or swimming costume is an item of clothing designed to be worn while engaging in a water- based activity or water sports, such as swimming, water polo, diving, surfing, water skiing, or during activities in the sun, such as sun bathing. A swimsuit can also be worn as an undergarment in sports that require a wetsuit such as water skiing, scuba diving, surfing, and wake-boarding. Swimsuits are also worn when there is a need to display the body, as in the case of beauty pageants, or bodybuilding contests. Glamour photography and magazines like illustrated annual “swimsuit issue” feature models and sports personalities in swimsuits.

vi. Lingerie:

The more fitted looks of today’s fashion is also influenced the rise in sales of body simmers. Lingerie is a term for fashionable and possibly alluring undergarments.  Lingerie usually incorporating one or more flexible, stretchy materials n like Lycra , nylon (nylon tricot), polyester, satin, lace, silk and Sheer fabric which are not typically used in more functional, basic cotton undergarments.
