How Does Influence of Technology on Quality

Technology certainly has a very high impact on quality. High quality modern machines not only improve productivity but also quality to a very large extent. To maintain high quality, manufacturer use Quality Management System (QMS). There are factors where production process runs without the involvement of human hands. Many processes have been fully automated and there are manufacturing facilities where entire processes have been robotized.

Though clothing industry has undergone revolutionary changes, it is still far from full automation or robotization. This is one reason why garments factories are being relocated from developed high wage countries to under developed countries.

Under developed countries comparative advantage to a large extent, lies in low wages of their workers. Bangladesh has already gone through nearly two decades of managing clothing factories. This is the time is when this country must venture for high value high quality products and at the same time must be able to compete with the most competitive countries under globalization of trade.

Most usable technology that are influence on quality in Bangladesh:

In the sewing lines, sewing process comprise only 30% while the remaining being auxiliary handing process. To enhance quality and productivity, these auxiliary processes must be automated or mechanized.

1st example: label cutting and creasing machine.

Many factories employ tedious primitive process of cutting them with scissors and thereafter ironing them. In this method quality is poor and so poor is the productivity. An automatic label cutting & creasing machine can solve problem at a cost of say. Used 500.00 tk only ensuring high quality of cutting and creasing at an exceptional productivity saving extra man power.

2nd example: Automatic sleeve placket – creasing machine

Let us cite another example for sleeve placket creasing for shirt . Manual folding and ironing or pressing is the general practice but an automatic sleeve placket – creasing machine enhances both quality and productivity.

3rd example:

Label attach sewing machine is another example. Employing a lock stitch machine with automatic thread trimmer enhances both quality & productivity with the additional of thread saving.

4th example:

Collar run stitching is also an example. Many factors that use general purpose plain machine for collar run stitching with subsequent trimming of extra fabric with scissors. The better alternative is using a plain machine with a straight knife, which conducts both sewing and trimming with a straight of extra fabric. Thus one way of enhancing quality is using folders, attachments, work –aids, some simple but automatic computerized machineries.

5th example:

Besides, simple electric operated clothing machineries are on the verge of going into oblivion and new smart computerized machinery have surfaced resulting in comport work and enhancement of work quality and productivity. Clothing industry of Bangladesh must seize this opportunity.

Some most essential technologies that are used in the garments manufacturing process. Technologies are used to increase productivity and to improve quality in garments manufacturing. Some are costly but it remarkably increase our profit and reputation also.
