Main Working Areas of Fashion Industry

In the fashion industry many areas are working together to get a required product, better quality, profit, and reputation. Different departments and employs are works for perfect garments and its design developments. Every departmental employs are work hard to improve their departments or working areas.

Main working areas of fashion industries are

  1. Design department
  2. Marketing and merchandising department
  3. Manufacturing department
  4. Fashion coordinators

1. Design department:

Design department mainly do the manufacturing units work on a large scale. Some important people do their work sincerely. These positions are below.

Employ designers:

Fashion designers usually start their fashion career after taking an honors’ or a diploma degree in fashion. There are many different courses available, some of which give a general grounding in fashion design, while others focus on manufacturing and clothing technology.

Employ designer do their works in a fashion industry as a trainee or an assistant of a senior fashion designer.

Cutting assistant:

Cutting assistants have to cut sample as per specifications of the designer. This is followed by draping and garments construction.

Sketching assistants:

Sketching assistants make the technical sketches of the garment which are passed on to cutting assistant. From the making of specification drawings decide how a garment has to be fabricated to the first pattern cutting.

Junior designers:

They assemble the first samples with fabrics they have selected from the market. Also working as an assistant of senior designer.

2. Marketing and merchandising department:

Fashion trends are constantly changing; the people in the merchandising and marketing have a good knowledge of fashion trend, of sales data and the organizations marketing objectives. Based on this information the marketing department plans the company’s overall direction. It determines the price product requirement, and hence they often work with the styling department when a new product is conceived.

3. Manufacturing department:

The production manager is at the head of the manufacturing unit. He is responsible for scheduling work goals, training of workers, managing all activities in order to maintain quality in production. The production manager oversees the work of pattern cutting – from pattern grading, spreading and marking to cutting, assembling and finishing with the production manager are the production assistants who supervise the work at each stage.

4. Fashion coordinators:

The fashion coordinator makes sure production schedules are kept, meets buyers goes through specification for fabrics, colors, designs, and keeps an eye on the quality. They coordinate with the buyer and productions manager. When buyer gives their own design, the coordinators helps decide the fabric colors and accessories that should be used to suit the designs.

Fashion coordinators explain the design to the production pattern makers and get sample pieces made. The sample is draped on a dummy to check the garments, if some changes in details or style are required. Then finished the sample and check the measurement precisely. Fashion coordinator always helps to minimize wastage. The garment is then finally ready for sale.
